Irecently played a lot of SNIPER ELITE 4 cooperative maps, like, really a lot. And I can also fairly claim that I have put enough hours into playing the campaign, DLC and survival missions by myself that by now I have truly mastered my primary weapon, which is a Carcano rifle. I am also usually pretty good at evading detection when playing solo. Things are different when playing coop. Here are the three possible modes.
Number One: Campaign (2 players)
In single player I have completed each campaign mission, including the DLCs, at least three times, since I am just as keen on collectibles and achievements as the next guy or girl. Playing the campaign with a partner is good for completing your collection of letters or stone eagles, since whatever one of you finds, the other gets too. Which is how I got the trophy for shooting all the stone eagles in every map.
Number Two: Survival (1-4 players)
I love the survival missions. Dropped into a variety of maps, both familiar and unfamiliar, you have to survive 12 waves of enemy onslaught, which grows with each wave in both numbers and difficulty (including half-tanks, tanks and snipers) all while defending your command post.
The host
As the host, you choose the map and the difficulty and can customise the game itself. You can also name the game to give players a heads-up on what to expect, e.g. preferred language, microphone use, focus on headshots or whatever. One thing you should never do, ever, is leave the game without a heads up to your team. Because there are few things as frustrating as having the host finish the game on, say Wave 11 or, worse, Wave 12 when everyone can taste victory already.
The maps
Now, some maps are more difficult than others. There are the Winter Market close to the Abruzza Monastery, the Village and the Maggazeno Facility by day, where your field of vision is pretty much unobstructed most of the time, but the opportunities for keeping yourself effectively hidden are also pretty rare, unless you position yourself inside a building and time your shots carefully.
Fun Challenge: If you and your team are already wasting enemies on Authentic difficulty and want to try something fun and new, I suggest playing the Facility map on Cadet difficulty using neither rifle nor pistol (except when down) or, for the truly mad of you, only the pistol, gun-wise (mines and explosives are allowed in both cases, in the latter you may also use the Panzerfaust). Especially the last command post is hard to defend using pistols or SMGs instead of the rifle, since it is really in an exposed position. Have fun!
The Operative does come with a SMG and pistol and also binoculars, which can be used to tag enemies for the sniper. This helps a lot, really, so try to tag as much as possible. My Alpha loadout features a silent Welrod pistol which I usually use to silently take out patrolling guards or to shoot out the light in the Compound mission to be able to move around with less chance of being detected. Shooting the lights out is, by the way, a good way to go in every nighttime mission.
The maps
There are two maps, Railyard by day and Compound by night. The Railyard map sees the Operative moving through a small settlement with plenty of houses to sneak through and loads of collectible letters to find.
As for the assassination targets, those the sniper can easily take out himself. The operative will still need to sneak up to the bodies to retrieve information, though, and both officers are well guarded.
One thing that is bugging me, literally, is that bug that frequently has an enemy you have just lined up for a shot move to the right as if pulled there by magic. That only happens in the solo survival and coop missions. But since that bug was already in SNIPER ELITE III, I am used to that. Actually, that bug helped me achieve my longest shot ever, 801,5 m, since one Volker Grn, a target in the Deathstorm: Inception-DLC that I played coop, started climbing a ladder inside that drydock building and just kept on climbing, right into the sky! Weird.
i have same issue to with Skins. Also could not find the DLC mission it was hidden in menu lol. Also a PATCH i think sniper elite 4 has few Bugs and Glitchs also the servers seem up and down and connection in game drops out or dam host leave the game etc.
I played Over Watch Compound and unlocked the Letters and the Stone Eagles achievements. But the Sniper Report one did not unlock. I have all the sniper reports in the game including Over Watch Compound. Do I have to play the Rail Yard map for that to unlock?
I am missing 1 document from mission 7. The document just below the one sniper in the map. I have played the map 3 times and it just wont show up for me. I have followed a video to make sure that is the one document I am missing and it just isn't there for me. But I have all the sniper reports other than playing Rail Yard.
The collectible achievements are based on how many of each item you collect, not how many in a level you collect. So if you collected some in the DLC, it counts towards the total collected, so it's possible an achievement will unlock sooner than you anticipated.
I assume you've gotten all the collectibles in the DLC? If so, you are two Sniper Reports short of getting the achievement; the DLC has 3 and Railyard has 5. On Railyard, 4 of the Sniper Reports are picked up by the Operative, so play as that class (if you're not sure if your partner will be picking up collectibles). If you play as Sniper you'll only pick up 1.
Yes I have played Hitler and have gotten all collectibles there. Seeing how the sniper achievement did not unlock I was pretty sure I had to play Rail Yard. Thank you for the info. I am trying to find a partner to play Rail Yard so I have time pick up the sniper reports.
Speaking of achievements not unlocking, I'm having that same issue with the Following Orders achievement for completing all optional objectives. I've checked my progress on each main mission and it says I have them all done.
I had "Following Orders", "Mother Knows Best" and "Weaver's Warriors" unlock for me on Friday night. Weaver unlocked within Mission 6 and Mother and Following Orders unlocked before I completed Mission 7. Weaver and Mother unlocked where they should have. I have heard those two not unlocking for people as well, both on X1 and PS4.
I thought it was too early for Following Orders as I have not done Mission 8 yet, but remembered that I completed some optional objectives in the Overwatch missions and both DLCs. Thus proving it's a set amount of objectives (the tracker says 28) and not by which missions you've completed them in. Same with collectibles. I just hope the collectible achievements don't glitch on me the same way the sniper nests one from SE 3 did.
EDIT - When they released the update with Deathstorm, they changed the game so that collectibles and optional objectives obtained/completed in the DLCs no longer count. They still counted towards the achievements for those collected/completed before the update, but if you collect/complete anything after, they don't count.
I found this out after I got the Sniper Reports achievement before completing the final Overwatch map, Compound. I had gotten them all in the campaign, Railyard and the Hitler DLC which was enough for the achievement to unlock. Then the update hit (without me knowing that they "fixed" the collectible achievements). I hadn't gotten the Stone Eagles in Compound, Hitler or Deathstorm yet, so I got all 6 of them in both DLCs, which gave me 34 of the required 30, and the achievement didn't unlock. Also, I had gotten enough of each of the three letters in Deathstorm to get "The Collector" (50 of each) but I didn't get that achievement. Only after getting all the collectibles in Compound did the Eagle and Letter achievements unlock for me.
Me and a buddy have been gathering all the collectibles, but the 3 achievements glitched out on us. We have done all 8 story missions and both overwatch missions, we completely skipped the Hitler DLC. I got the sniper report achievement, while he got the stone eagle achievement, we both missed the all letters achievement. We both have 100% of the collectibles on all 10 missions, any ideas on how to fix this?
My only suggestion, which may or may not work, is to play the campaign with someone who hasn't collected everything yet. Have them obtain the collectibles (since they won't be there for you ) and see if that triggers the achievement(s) for you. It's worth a try, but I'm not even sure if it'll work. Or just wait for Rebellion to acknowledge that there is a glitch and they eventually patch it.
I'm sure that if you start a new campaign it'll wipe out all progress so I recommend not doing that unless you want to collect everything again. I accidentally started a new campaign in SE 3 and was not happy...
I'm still able to pick up collectables on my game(looting corpses only), but it shows that everything is at 50% every time. Even sniper reports, which I have the achievement for. I tried reinstalling the game hoping that would work, with no luck. I guess I'm stuck waiting for a patch for this.
