Airspy not found -- any way to remotely "kick" it?

On a Lenovo Tiny PC running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS server, the Airspy R2 is
sometimes not seen at startup (or after a reboot). Since it's a remote
unit, I can't simply unplug the cable and hope that fixes it. It would
be very handy if I knew how to force a USB rescan or some other function
to force it to enumerate.

When it's recognized, the Airspy works fine. It's just that often
ka9q-radio reports "no device found" and doing lsusb shows that it's not
there.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,
John

Two maybe unhappy solutions.
-reboot (but you already do apparently)
-setup as Ubuntu and use Oracle VirtualBox to create a second Ubuntu machine inside. For this setup you can always uncouple/reconnect the usb devices for the VM. They fall back to the main machine and are re-enumerated for the VM. Still usb is sloppy for some devices, mostly at the device itself or due to cabling issues/power issues and incomplete handling of the protocol.
(-use another port)

I have this problem too on occasion, though not often enough to cause
real aggravation. One definite cause of an Airspy "lockup" is loss of
reference input, if you are using one. The firmware won't fall back to
the internal TCXO, you have to power cycle the unit.

Hi Erwin --

Thanks (for both emails)! I did see this thread, and tried various
things to reset the bus, but they don't seem to work. It may be that
"brute force" of power cycling if not the whole computer, at least the
Airspy, is needed. I'm working on an idea for that.
