Good people,

I and a few friends have ganged up in an initiative to purchase "Oxygen Machines" for the paediatric ward at Queens. We decided to do this following a visit to the hospital on John Chilembwes Day.We were told by the hospital that babies are dying on a daily basis due to inadequate number of Oxygen machines.

Some of my friends are Mr Felix Njawala, the Coordinator of E Wallet,Lillian Simbota,Willy Soko,Edgar Kachere,Fred Muphuwa and others. We are calling ourselves "Together for Life" and we intend to have an awareness show on 14th February 2007 at the French Cultural Center from 7 pm.Amongst other things there will be performances by artists like the 3 E Wallet Music Competition winners, Davis ndi Edgar,Giddess Chalamanda,Joyful Souls, and duets on classical songs in line with the Valentine Theme and many more.Charges are K1000 a couple and K500 single.

Its important for all of us  to do something for our Nation.Donations can also be made through an account which we have opened with Nedbank in the name of "Oxygen Machines".For transparency and accountability's sake you are free to fire at us any suggestions and questions as you may like.

Kind regards

Good morning,

First and foremost let me congratulate you and your colleagues for the well thought initiative. I hope you will keep us updated on the activities. Could you also avail us with the account number of the Bank account at NEDBANK so that whoever wants to contribute to the good course can do so.

Have a good day.

Lizzie Chikoti.

Davis,
It would be worthwhile to disclose the landed cost of the Oxygen Machine so that contributors have a fair picture of how much to contribute to the cause.

Davis!
Thats a very good Idea and please furnish us with the information regarding when do you intend to buy the machine and if some people may want to make pledges when do you expect to have the pledged money in the account.

Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am really overwhelmed by your response. To answer some of your questions allow me to inform you that one Oxygen machine costs K450 000.00 each.We got the quote from Lab enterprises who are a Malawian company situated at Ginnery Corner behind the ruins of the PTC.Currently Lab do not have the machines in stock but they will do so in due course. Those of you who are well versed in procurement can give us a hand possibly with a view to finding cheaper machines, for instance, through direct importation? The idea behind our initiative is that anybody who can contribute in any way should go ahead and do what they feel they can do.We are just the prime movers as it were.

Since our target is to purchase at least two machines we are hoping to raise at least K950 000.00.We have given ourselves up to the end of April 2007(a period of about three months) to try and raise this amount.Indeed we are silently hoping that your donations will go way beyond K450 000.00 so that we can purchase as many machines as we can.Remember one machine can save lots of lives.

Nedbank simply told us that cheques for donations should be made  in favour of ''Oxygen Machines" and they will handle the funds for us.At the end of April 2007 we shall publish a list of all donations received through Nedbank so that you can check your donations.i have fought so hard with anumber of Banks to get a specific account numberv but this proved a bit tricky because the Banks want us to register an organisation before they open an account.Registering a charity in Malawi takes a good number of months because of bureaucratic tape.By the time we get registered most people will have forgotten thde cause. In any case since you are all welcome to be part of this initiative we felt that registering an oragnisation  will be counter productive since then it will become an organisation for the few people whose names will appear in the books as chairman, directors etc etc.Your further suggestions on this, especially from the Banks people are welcome.

Lilongwe folk remember that the Valentine Concert is just an awareness concert. We are hoping that you too will contribute to this noble cause through donations. At the same we hope that this will inspire you to carry on similar projects in LL and the surrounding areas. In this regard we pledge our support in any way we can.

Can you imagine that as you have been reading this e mail some babies have arrived at the Hospital in need of Oxygen machines and their helpless mothers, having walked all the way from the outskirts of town, are just watching not knowing what to do because all the 4 Oxygen Machines are currently in use?now can you imagine what will probably  happen in the next half an hour? We ladies and gentlemen can and should change that picture.

Regards

Importing directly would be cost effective as local suppliers tend to add a bigger margin to earn profit. Surely we can get the details of suppliers from the Hospital Administrator at Q.EC.H. As for donations, Companies and organisations can assist if formally contacted in writing as this issue is a cause for concern for all and the set target can be met in a shorter period than the three months.

Davis,
On a different note, do you have in stock tapes or CD's of your recent album? Some friends would like to buy but do not know where to find them.
Good day,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to thank those who came to the show on Valentines Day.For those of you that didnt make it at least you must have read in the papers how it was.Believe you me its quite a challenge doing what as at now we are only trying to do.

We now have an account number (Ms Maggie Kasambara take note!).Its 021000010267,Nedbank,Victoria Avenue. You can use either Oxygen Machines or Together for Life Foundation. As at now we have about K100 000.

We have decided to meet every Monday at Ryalls Hotel from 6.30.

On 17th March 2007 we will hold a very peaceful march from Limbe (Yiannakis) to Blantyre (Old Town Hall).Again this event is for raising awareness towards our cause and also to raise much needed funds. You are all free to attend the meeting, participate and contribute.

There are strong possilities that we might register an association in the long run so as to ensure that we give good people like yourselves a forum through which you can reach needy people in our country and direct attention to worthy causes.

Mr Paul Khuvulo and anybody else who wants to reach me can do so on 09512343.
