jquery news tickers + twitter + k2 = broken?

i'm using twitter's javascript widget to pull the last 5 tweets.
placed that javascript at the bottom just above </body>
next, tried to implement http://www.texotela.co.uk/code/jquery/newsticker/
but it doesn't work.
i checked K2's innards, it clearly uses jquery. so why doesn't the
ticker work?
could someone just tell me what to add into K2 to get the ticker
working?
