Bulk email sending?

Do you subscribe to a service to send bulk emails from your Student Information System? Since Gmail won't allow the kind of quantity required to send, say, lunch balance emails, we've hung onto our old hosted email server, but it seems to be on its last legs.

What do you all do for sending large amounts of emails?
