Folks

Like other schools, we face the challenge of a certain percentage of our low income families still not having home internet access.

I'm looking for options on how we as a school can help these families....anyone have any thoughts??

Thanks so much

If your school wants to take on the cost(s), you can get a Verizon mifi for ~40$/month.  Part of what you want to look at, I think, is how many of these internetless families are single or double smartphone families - often the fact that they don't have internet is a choice about where the limited funding is going. When I tried to roll this out to 20+ families, 17 were double smartphone families - often it is just about educating parents on how to use a hotspot they are already paying for on their phone.

Indeed. It's called Comcast Internet Essentials, available only for families who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch. Take advantage of this as it's what we taxpayers get for subsidizing this highly profitable company.

Everyoneon.org is designed to help families get connected. It will find subsidized programs in the area, as well as available reimbursements. I found that for many of our families, there is a reimbursement on top of a subsidized program, allowing some to be connected for something like $0.50/month
