Folks

Is anyone using Google Sites to manage staff/employee/HR information?

I really don't want to use Sharepoint...we're too small for that expense

Thanks!!

We have used a Google Site for this purpose for more than two years.

The site is owned by a "role" account, so that it's not tied to a particular employee account.  Most pages in the side use the Drive Folder gadget to display a list of documents.

I created folders in Drive for various departments (Business Office, HR (insurance, other forms), student discipline reports, academic information, etc, etc, etc.  Each folder is shared to all employees (view permission) and to the employee(s) responsible for maintaining the content (edit permission).

After I completed the initial creation, I rarely have to update anything.

Access to the site is restricted to our employees (for obvious reasons).  We use a Google Group to control access. The link to the site is publicly displayed on a couple of other sites, but you must be logged into Google with an account that is a member of the authorized group.

Link to a screen shot of the site, with the Business Office top-level page displayed: http://goo.gl/YGYs0H

The update time shown indicates when the folder was changed - not when the colder's content was changed.  Users have the option of looking at docs through the Drive gadget or going to the Drive page directly.

The menu on the left will give you an idea of how the site is structured. I tell new employees that the site will give them the ABC'S of what they need to know (Academics, Business Office, Calendars, and Student Information).

We do the same - the google site is tied to the school-provided login, and users can access whatever they need, and links to other portals and resources all from one place.  Free to set up as a GAE school, low maintenance.
