Has anyone added grading rubrics within a Google Doc?  Or how do you go about grading L.A. documents?

Thanks!

I have not done this yet. However, when I do I will take the rubric that is created in a table from doc and copy and paste at the end of the students document. If you are worried about the student changing the grade, it is all in revision history. If you are worried about students deleting the document (because they are the owner) then make a copy and share with them in view only.

Kevin Brookhouser has perfected this and it is awesome!!! Here is a link to a Youtube video where he explains it; he's an English teacher so he's using them to grade his essays. But this could be used for any rubrics. Here is a link to a rubric I recently used to grade a video project my students did.

I do something similar. I create an assignment sheet from the start that includes the assignment, room to compose, the rubric, the correction numbers (departmental requirement), and room for revisions. I share this to students with "view-only" rights by dragging/dropping it in a folder that is itself shared with them with "view-only" rights. At the top of the doc, I give instructions for them to make a copy, rename with our special file-naming protocol, and then share the copy with me. As I grade, I simply highlight their placement on the rubric that is already directly in the doc. I add comments as well. Sometimes, I screencast feedback for the student, upload it from Jing to Screencast.com, and then drop the link to the screencast back into the doc itself. After the students get feedback, they place their revisions directly in the doc as well. Here is a copy of an example (this lovely student agreed to allow me to make a copy of her work to share with you, minus her name, of course).

It's everything in one place, and I see their work from the beginning and all the way through to revisions. I enter grades in our SIS gradebook separately.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
