Last spring I was able to open up a Google Docs file using Safari on an iPad, scroll to the bottom and click on the "View Google Docs in Desktop" and get access to the full desktop version.

Now when I go to do that, it gives an error message "Google Docs has encountered an error. We are looking into the problem now. Please reload this page to continue."

They have been "looking into the problem" for at least four months. Any idea when this might be fixed, or if there are any work arounds?

Last Friday I had a group of people try it on their own iPads and they all got the same error, so I know it isn't my iPad or my Google account.

I have the same experience trying to switch to the full desktop mode of GDocs from the iPad.  I also tried with a non-Safari browser on the iPad and had the same error.

Maybe iOS5 will fix this?

All my best,
Matthew
