A couple of questions for you, if you've been using Classroom for PD:

1. We've been using Moodle to deliver video recorded workshops. Teachers can watch the video, take a quiz, and if scoring 80% or better receive a PDF of a CEU certificate. I set that up using a certificate plug-in for Moodle.

How could the same workflow work in Classroom? Is there an add-on or something that will generate certificates if a certain level is achieved on the quiz?

2. Do you have just one Staff Development class in Classroom, and use Topics to organize and separate the various offerings? Or do you create a new Classroom for each class?

I'd love for folks to only need to join ONE Classroom and have all the available classes there, but it seems to be a mess that way.

Any tips or best practices would be appreciated! Thanks!

I usually set up a class per group - joining and clearing is so easy!
As to certificate generation, never gone that route, but I do assessments with Edpuzzle, and it can do what you ask, plopped right into the classroom. You can also use the real estate in the class info/syllabus section to pop out to a google site, if you need to add something with more pizzazz.

I have set up Google Forms so that the response users get after clicking submit contains a link to the CPDU - which they can download and save or print if needed.
You could also make the Google Form into a QUIZ to test their knowledge in which case they'd get a grade emailed to them as well.
You can also include a question on your Google Form where people Upload a document. This could be anything from a reflection to feedback, etc...
Hopefully that gives you a few more ideas?

Zach,

Thanks for sharing about MyCred. We host WP as well, so this might be a great tool for us!

I wonder if I could deploy FormMule to look at the total percentage column, and if over 80% then it sends an email with the link to the awarded points?

I suppose there's nothing stopping people from sharing the link and allowing point rewards without really doing the class...although we'd have record of their scores in Classroom...

Bernie, when you set your classes up, do you mean you do like..."Modifying and Adapting Curriculum" would be a class all unto itself? the stream would contain a video, a link to an assessment, and that's about it? I'm thinking that's how I'd set these up.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone!

Hi Jesse,

This is a good question and I'm curious to see what folks might suggest.

A side idea might be to disassociate the tracking/certificate from Classroom. We use WordPress and the excellent MyCred plugin for this. MyCred tracks "CEU" points for teachers (who turn them in for license renewal). Also allows us to gamify a bit (badges instead of certificates).

MyCred lets you award points via a URL link. So, in theory, you could have a teacher complete a topic/course in Google Classroom. They take a quiz - and based on branched results (ie - they get a question correct) the link appears that then deposits CEUs into their account.

I've always used autocrat to generate a personalized certificate for each person and mail it to them. You could add a condition that it only creates one if there percentage is over a certain amount.
