send from a group email address?

Hello,

We are creating an email group called gp-in...@wmrhsd.org so that vendors can send invoices to that address. Is it possible to respond from this group address? It looks like this used to be a possibility but google killed it?

Yes it's possible.  A member of the group can go into the email account settings and add the group email address as a secondary email address.  The email confirmation will get sent to the group, which they should receive being a member of the group, and once that confirmation is accepted that user will see the email alias of the group as an available 'send-from' address when composing mail.
