During the most recent Presidential Debate, 8th grade students participated in a real-time debate discussion. A Google Doc was shared with them. They logged in to their google account and then used the chat box on the right side of the document, The feedback from students was very positive and requests have been made to use this type of technological tool on election night to discuss election returns.
Unfortunately, up to 50 people can "chat" at a time. When more tried to get in it either did not allow them or it kicked those that were in out and then allowed others out. The only way there was an archive of the chat was if the teacher was in from start to finish, she copied and pasted the chat into the document. While this does work, it just so happened that the teacher was one of the people kicked out and she could not get back in.
So, now I am looking for something to use that would allow for real-time chat, a protected setting where students can log in, and it archives/saves. (I know Today's Meet could work, however it does not allow for individual log ins...participants enter a name once they go to the link. In a middle school setting I fear students could be "anyone".
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to hold this real-time chat? Is there an app in the Marketplace? Q
Thanks
