We have introduced Chromebooks at some of our schools and created email accounts for 8th through 2nd grade students.

Some of the schools want Kinder and 1st grade students to use these devices as well. But since I have them managed, we need to create simple logins for these students which will not require them to do that much typing.

Suggestions?

Ran into the same issue in my school.

Decided to create a classroom GAFE account for use on the Chromebooks at those grade levels.  Has worked so far.

I like this idea. For your setup, did you do something simple like k...@domain.tld with a simple, eight-character pw? Also, did you run into issues with reaching any limits on simultaneous logins with a class set of devices?

Thank you,

Sean

We use public sessions for our k-2. Though they still end up having to enter usernames and passwords for other applications and after a week they can all type in their credentials just fine. They all have google apps accounts but they log into the Chromebook with the public session account and then go to drive and log in directly.

I tried this with our new teacher orientation and it worked for the morning. That was the first time I ever used the public session mode. All of my regularly deployed devices require a district account and guest mode is off. It adds a bit of a security layer to the devices. Another good idea.

Interesting situation just occurred in our district. I had a teacher who, through DonorsChoose, received four Acer C7 chromebooks. They ended up being shipped from CDWG. I started to set them up, and realized that there were no management licenses tied to them. I just put in the order for those today to get them tied to our district. These are the first non-Samsung devices I received, although I just ordered a HP chromebook to see how we like that device.

So, DonorsChoose and 'free' Chromebooks...very cool. If your teachers run into this, try (easier said than done sometimes) to have the mgmt licenses included in the package. This was done without me knowing about it, as it happened during the early part of the summer.
