Hey there - we have 400 of the cr-48 Chromebooks that we have been using without access to the control panel for management.  We are going to be purchasing another few hundred Chromebooks this summer and we are going to get the 1-year plan only with the expectation of not using the control panel management at all for Chromebook control.

We keep all Chromebooks in schools and while we strive for a 1:1 ratio, the Chromebooks stay in the classrooms and multiple students utilize the same machines.

Our current setup is to logon to the chromebooks for the first time using a domain 'service' account - so that the first account on the devices (which becomes the device 'admin') is owned by us.

Other than that, does anyone have any good tips/tricks for managing and controlling Chromebooks without using the Control Panel?

Thanks all!

All my best,
Matthew

Well besides having limited control within Google Apps under group permissions, the only other thing you really can do is under users, add *@yourdomain.whatever which will lock it down to only allow people who are part of that domain, access to the device.
