What is the best way to have students submit work via GAFE?   I tried Google Docs, but I want each student to be able to upload only his/her individual file, while at the same time not to have access to other students' files.  And I would like to see all their files at once, on one page.

Will a file cabinet page work for this?

Thank you.

I use a google form and have them submit their identifying information and a link to the assignment.

But I would like to see all student files in one location. It makes reviewing them a heck of a lot easier.

I've been pushing this a lot lately, but we love it so far:

Agreed.  We started using  Teacher Dashboard by Hapara last year and the teachers were immediately converted.  Said it makes their life so much easier by not having to share doc's -- they can see emails, docs, blog postings, etc. all on one interface.

Rachel,

I would recommend still using Google Docs, but have the students create turn in folders that they share with you once, and then use those folders to drop in their assignments.  Then if you want to be able to see all the assignments together, you could use a Google Form that the students use to "submit" the link to their work when they turn it in.

For loads of details on this approach, see my resources for "The Paperless Classroom with Google Docs" at http://www.appsusergroup.org/presentations/paperless-classroom

I have a printable guide, a slide show, and a recorded video tutorial.  For your situation, look specifically at sections titled "How to use folders as student turn-in folders" and "How to use forms to turn in assignments".

A file cabinet page would not work because all the uploaded files would be accessible by all the students.  Likewise a single shared folder in Google Docs for all the students would not work, because if they have the rights to add a file, then they have the rights to view (and even edit) the other students' files in that folder.
