I am wondering if I am the only one frustrated with these changes...

1. You can no longer be logged into 2 Google Accounts at the same time?  For instance, I used to keep up my organization's Google Apps for Ed for my Google Docs while at work, but keep up my personal Google account Calendar so I can see conflicts with my husband & kids' calendars as well as my work.  As of this week, I can no longer do this.

2. I was registered with this Google Group with my work email.  As of this week I am getting the emails into my PERSONAL gmail account.  I think that this may have something to do with the fact that we have email turned off in our Google App for Ed as we use Outlook.  However, I really don't want work related items in my personal email account....

Any thoughts on why these changes were made?

1. If you use the Chrome browser you can open an incognito window (ctrl-shift-N) and use it log into your second e-mail account.  I have found this feature of Chrome indispensable.
2. Did you sign up for a personal account using your schools domain? The emails should not be redirecting to your personal account because the group has no way of knowing that address. If it's being sent to your school account it should be "bouncing"

The default for your being able to use multiple accounts is no.

To turn this on, go to your picture or name in your apps domain, select account settings. Once loaded, click the Off Link on Multiple Log ins.

This will enable you to have multiple log-ins. Do for each account.

Not a direct answer, but I'll second the suggestion for Chrome… I'm an Apple user and use Safari for *my* web browser. I keep my personal gmail signed in there, as I use Google Docs for other things too, but use Chrome when I want to use my edu's domain login.

Similarly here....I use Chrome all day long for school, but I open up Firefox for simultaneous access to a personal account...

If you have multiple sign in enabled in the account settings you can be in both accounts by accessing the personal account through this link https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/?shva=1#mbox

Multiple sign-in works for most purposes, as mentioned by Henry, if you want to have both accounts open in the same browser without the use of private browsing/incognito.  However, I do run into issues when trying to access Postini, another domain's control panel, and other services that do not support multiple sign-in...logging into these services prompts you for a single log in and signs out all others.

And for the first note in the original email, yes, it was once possible to use your Apps account completely separate from your personal GMail accounts.  However, with the addition of nearly all Google services to Apps accounts, the accounts were essentailly turned into full accounts, which conflicts with the logins of regular GMail accounts.  I believe the change is permanent for all users now, but it was an optional opt-in from early in the school year last year until sometime in the spring/summer.

I use the developer version of chrome and it has a feature (it may be available in standard or beta, you would have to check) that allows you to create different profiles.  You can associate each profile with a different Google account.  When you click on a profile it opens in a new window.  From what I have seen you can add quite a few profiles.  Check it out, it might do what you need it to.

Thanks to everyone that had suggestions.  I've been trying out many of them in between projects today.  I wish I had more time to spend on exploring features of the Google Apps for Ed!

(Still have to switch my email registration for this group back to work...That should be the last fix.)

I'm not seeing any issues with having two accounts open in two
different browsers. Our District standard is IE 8. There is an
option in IE 8 and beyond to make sure each browser window is tied to
a new session. The default (for IE 8 and up) is same session unless
you've made a registry change to alter this. I use a shortcut to:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -noframemerging
If you look under the File menu, there's also a New Session option.
Haven't had any problems with logging into different accounts as long
as they're in new sessions. On the other hand, we have single signon
for Google Mail within our District. So, if I want to bring up a
Compose Mail window for Google Mail, I'll want it in the same session
as the Google Mail account I want to compose messages for so I don't
need to log in again or get sent to my inbox by single signon instead
of the location I asked for.

Sincerely,
Laura
