Hi all,

I'm trying to set a page to open on our chromebooks when a student logs in. I've set the page in the organization the student belongs to in the "pages to load at startup" and as the homepage, neither has any effect. It opens chrome when they log in, but it goes to the search/6 most recent pages screen. Anyone have any ideas on how to get it to load the page I want?

This has been a temperamental setting for me as well.  I actually have been able to get it to work, but once set, it won't unset.  I had set the "Pages to Load at Startup" to the NWEA Web based testing page, and when our testing Window was closed, deleted the entry.  To my chagrin, the website still loads.  In order to get it to not load at all (I personally feel that launching Chrome is unnecessary, I set a background for a reason), I changed the setting from Locally applied to Inherited, which fixed it some of the time.  Still, on occasion I will have the NWEA page just pop up on login for no reason.

Here is what I have as settings for my Testing OU, I'm sure it's similar to what you have on your devices.  To check if it's working, navigate to the chrome://policy site and click "Reload Policies".  From there you can see if the "DeviceStartupFlags" and "DeviceStartupURLs" are set or not.

When I look at Chrome/Policy on a Chromebook logged on as a student, I don't even see the settings for DeviceStartup.  We have had this work for us with the exception of one website and don't understand why it doesn't work.  The url works on my desktop but when I paste the same url in the admin console it doesn't work.  Any thoughts?

If the values are blank, you will have to check the box at the top of the page on the right side in order to see what the policy is set to:

As for the site that won't load, No idea without more details.  What is the site and I can try it on a test student.

I finally called Google Support.  What I found out is the setting under Device settings where you can set to Erase user data for this website and OU has to be set to NOT Erase.  Once I made that change it worked!  Who knew!
