I am retiring and have a gazillion pdf's in my google docs.  Today I tried to make someone else owner of those files and was unable to do so.  They are able to edit, but when I try to change owner, that option isn't present.

Has anyone done this?  If so, could you give me a tip please.

I believe that is the intended behavior.  Since a PDF counts against your Docs storage (like any non-Google file) if you were to make someone else the owner, the file would now count against their Docs storage.  A person could easily fill up another user's Docs storage by making them the owner of many large files (intentionally or not).  Google is most likely trying to prevent someone from doing that to another user, therefore you can only transfer ownership of files in Google Docs format (since those do not count against storage limits).

At least that is my understanding.

Just a thought....

If all of the .pdf's were in a single folder/collection, could you make a copy of the folder and therefore have your own copy of all the documents?

Thanks,

I just checked a PDF that is shared with me from someone else, and the only option I see is to download it, and then re-upload it so that I am the owner of the new version.
