Hello cloud,

I am looking forward to starting to use a classroom set of Chromebooks in about 2 weeks and need some help in how to approach my administration with a plan to implement GAFE with my students. My principal is actually in the process of buying a domain so we can have our own website unattached from our school district so I would have something after the @ sign for my students to use. But I am new to GAFE and don't know if anyone has implemented it on a 1-classroom basis. Please advise.

Thanks,

Brian,

Though we are in the process of implementing a school wide program, I sent a letter home and had students create a gmail account with a prescribed generic username - A COMBINATION OF A FEW LETTERS FROM SCHOOL (SORRY -New phone)

We could do everything we needed to in class - once I added student accounts to a generic teacher email account.  No issues with docs and students got over chat etc in the first hour - I just asked students not to use this gmail account for personal uses.

Hi Brian,

If your District already has a GAFE domain, there is no need to
purchase an additional domain. Your classroom can be setup as an
organizational unit (OU). It will inherit all services from the root,
which can either be allowed or turned off. Whenever your class creates
anything (Doc, Presentation, Site, etc.) only share it with who ever
you want to see it.

Do you also have a Moodle site? If so, someone in the district could
set up a moodle/ Google integration. Students could log into the class
moodle, click one button and be in their GAFE account without signing
in again. When they exit their GAFE account, they would be back in
Moodle.

If you don't have Moodle or any other LMS, think about using Blogger
or a Google Site for your class. Students log into the chromebooks, go
to the class blog or site, and get busy with the morning activities
while the teacher takes care of the morning business (attendance).
