Good morning,

We are starting our student tech team today after alot of planning and the whole application/eval process. We have some ideas on tasks and daily work/enrichment. If you have a student tech team, we're starting in 6-7 grade, can you throw me a few ideas, or any materials you may have?

Thanks!

We are a high school of about 650 students and a 1-1 laptop program.

I have a tech team of 8 students...paid $7.75 an hour....and they are trained to perform repairs on our laptops.  We are a warranty repair center for Dell and Lenovo machines, sometimes called a 'self maintainer' program.  It's a great team and they learn very valuable and useful skills.  Plus, Dell and Lenovo pay us to perform the repairs and that money funds ALL student wages.

What kinds of tech do you have and how do you see your student team assisting you?

I have a tech team of approximately 20 students grades 6-8.  We have done contests like the Verizon App Challenge and the White House Challenge.  Currently they are working on tutorials for teachers and have made themselves available to work with the tech end of a lesson in the teacher's classroom.  I am also looking for ideas!

Thanks!

Mr. Dazley,

We have a Tech Leader program at the high schools that we started during out 1:1 role out.
We have 9-12 students at each building that help with the program.  They run our Student Help Desk, where students can come in and have hardware or software issued resolved.

Tech Leaders are responsible for the following:
  • Repairing any of the 1:1 device that was issued.. Dell, Asus, Chromebooks
  • Inventorying Units
  • Maintenance Logs
  • Communication with students when repairs are finished
Outside of repairs, we have them involved in student conferences, blogging about current tech news, and doing videos about repairs or updates.  Our help desk site

Here is a link to student application which overviews the program.

Our main goal is to have students not only to help support the large amount of devices we maintain, but to have authentic help desk experience and learn customer service skills.  You can Google anything, but teaching patience and troubleshooting is a different mind set.

Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions.
Glad to help

Abraham
