I was wondering if anyone knew the setting that effects whether or not the auto reply (out of office) comes back to the Group or not? We have moved over to Gmail and are using Google Groups as distro lists. I haven't seen this happen in our Group so we must have the right setting on but I've seen it happen in public google groups like this one.

Does anyone know what setting it is that disallows those auto replies?

There is a setting in the Auto-Reply setup that blocks repeated notifications.  I believe it is on by default and is set to 4 days [If a message is sent from a email group within 4 days, it will not reply a second (or fifteenth) time.] This setting is not only for groups, but will also apply to individuals as well.

Looks like it is not longer a setting, but a default feature.

But that would still send one reply message to all-staff...if all staff emailed again, it won't for 4 days but I don't think this resolves the issue.

This is only tangentially related, but we have our various staff groups set to direct replies to the original sender rather than to the whole group, since we don't view these groups as discussion forums.  That doesn't prevent the sender from getting the auto-responder reply, but it keeps it from going to everyone on the list.

Good point if an issue with the autoresponder would happen.  I don't have it here b/c most staff don't need to use it, which with just under 100 employees we have a different outlook than districts with of 250+ employees.

Thanks, Tom that helps. We have it set to "let user decide" ..I wonder what the default is then..
