Can you help me with the following quote from _Berenice_ by Edgar
Allen Poe:
"Que tous ses pas e'taient des sentiments," and
"que tous ses dents e'taient des ide'es. Des ide'es!"

Anybody able to help?
Thanks, Patty

ecuse me but i didn't see that you just wanted to translate that
two sentences. So the translation of the first:
Que tous ses pas etaient des sentiments ... would be:
all his footprints was feelings.
(it means: there is some feelings in his footprints when he
walks, I think)
and the second one:

Que toutes ses dents etaient des idees. Des idees! ...would be:
all his teeth was ideas. ideas!
(it is harder for me to give you the sense of this sentence be-
cause I don't have the context. and as you see, you made a mistake
in the sentence: it is Que toutes ses dents... and not like
you wrote: Que tous ses dents... because teeth is a female word
(sorry don't know how to say feminin in English))

So I hope I helped you in your translation of the two sentences.
If you have others to translate or to have more explications about
these ones just write me again, I will be glad to help you again.
bye....

That all his steps were feelings
that all his teeth were ideas. Ideas!
The grammar in both these quotes is bad, assuming that you transcribed it properly, but the translation should be adequate.
Please remember that french is conceptually very open and that these quotes, when put inside a story, may be metaphors that lose their meaning when translated! I haven't read the story, and therefore cannot guess what its supposed to mean, but good luck!
