Hi,

I am a Special Ed major at SUNY at Old Westbury in NY. I am doing a
presentation for one of my classes. The topic is Art Therapy. Does anyone
know of any good sources that will not only tell me about art therapy but
also contains some of the activities done in art therapy. We want to do a
demonstration using paints, drawing or some other fine art medium.

Thank you!

Hi Anne, I work as a music teacher with special kids and often use music to
draw a response from the kids while doing art projects. Some music I find
visually stimulating for the students has been
most of Bizet's Carmen Suites and L'Arlesienne Suites. This works well with
both heavy and light strokes of a brush as well as for dark and light
shades. The students do respond well and it also makes them oh so happy!
Other Music: Brahms Hungarian Dances, Music of Scott Joplin. Most of this
music speaks for itself when you hear it. So one can easily assign an
activity to it. Really anything that affects you will almost certainly
affect the students. This approach fits well into the category of Arts
Fusion and it can be easily expanded on.

All the best

Wow, I never even considered using music. We can talk about it and use it
for our demonstration. If you don't mind, I'll print your reponse so that I
can show it to my friend Mary Ann, the other doing the report with me. I
think we can build on your suggestion.

Thanks so much
Anne

Magi, the web address is: http://singnlearn.com/cart/callirobics.html
It is not terribly expensive, the cassette with tracebook is 18.99, and
additional tracerbooks are about 7.00. I think Allie's teacher sent info
home to other parents about it, and had them purchase the books for
their own kids. I supply Allie's books, and I supplied the original
cassette. (which has been copied for other classes)

I actually found a website for callirobics itself... they have the materials somewhat
cheaper. I'm waiting though, because I don't generally buy stuff this close to the
end of the school year. I've done it in the past, and it results in not getting the
materials until middle of April, and we get out May 26.
