Conference Theme:
-----------------
Reaching new frontiers in multi media education is the theme of this
conference. The aim is to present cutting edge teaching techniques in all
disciplines of education through the use of multi media facilities. The
objective is to achieve efficient and effective ways of course material
delivery, novel approaches to tutoring, optimum utilisation of resources
and enhancement of learning.
Program:
--------
A comprehensive program has been planned for this conference. The program
will include plenary sessions led by world renowned experts in the field,
invited keynote speakers, invited sessions and demonstrations of state of
the art multi media based techniques in education. A demonstration of
international tele conferencing will take place. Suppliers of the latest
multi media equipment will be invited to present their latest products.

The following topics are of special interest and contributions addressing
them will be given priority.
* Development of computer software for teaching/learning
* Intelligent tutoring software
* Special featured simulation software
* Distance education
* Computer aided laboratory development
* Authoring languages and systems
* Interaction between computers and users
* Impact of computer graphics on learning
* Intelligent assessment methods
* Novel student feedback techniques
* Multi media education and the psychology of learning
* Open learning systems
* Interactive CD ROM applications
* Human, social and economic issues related to multi media
education
* Quality assurance in multi media education
* Multi media education in developing countries
* Penetration of multi media based education in teaching
* Presentation aspects of multi media educational systems
* Development of databases for wide area multi media
information networks
* Worldwide web applications
Although the main thrust of this conference is multi media education, other
related contributions are also sought.
Venue and Facilities:
---------------------
The conference will be held in Melbourne, Australia. Melbourne, the
world's most livable city, is renowned for its unique mix of continental
and international cuisine, exquisite shopping centres, beautiful parks and
gardens, its casino and night life.
The University of Melbourne, one of the oldest and most famous universities
in Australia, will host the event. The university is within walking
distance of the city centre and major restaurants and food outlets.
The conference will have available to speakers a host of modern multi media
lecture theatres and computing facilities. A full list of these will be
provided to delegates.
Submitted Contributions:
------------------------
Two categories of submitted contributions are sought.
Category 1: This includes contributions accompanied by demonstrations of
the medium used. These will be given high priority. The length of these
contributions should not exceed ten A4 pages*.
Category 2: This includes papers which describe techniques and teaching
methodologies without demonstrations. The length of these should not
exceed six A4 pages*.
* Contributions with extra pages will attract a fee of $100 per page.
Multiple contributions will also attract additional fees.
Invited Contributions:
----------------------
Proposals for invited sessions are encouraged. These proposals should be
sent to the Conference Secretariat no later than 1 December,1995. The
proposal should include a list of invited authors, a brief resume of each
author and a 500 word long abstract for each paper. The Category, length
and format of invited contributions are the same as for submitted
contributions.
Journal Publications:
---------------------
A selected number of contributions will be published in special issues of
education journals.
Format:
-------
All papers should be printed or typed on one side of a standard white A4
paper. The following format instructions should be closely followed: 2
columns with 5mm space between the columns, 25mm left and right margins,
30mm top and bottom margins, 12 point Times font or equivalent. Single
spacing should be used. An abstract of no more than 100 words,
positioned across the page, under author affiliations, indented 10mm each
side. Main headings should be in capital letters, bold and numbered.
Subheadings should be in lower case except the first, bold and numbered.
Figures and tables should appear next to where they are first mentioned,
numbered as Fig.(1), for example, with a centred caption below the figure
or table. References should be referred to and cited in the standard IEEE
format.
Copyright and Conference Language:
----------------------------------
The copyright of all contributions will be transferred to the IEEE and
authors must sign a declaration to this effect. The official language is
English. Papers written in other languages will not be considered. Non
English speaking authors are advised to use a translator for the
preparation of their paper.
Assessment Procedure:
---------------------
Three copies of full papers should be sent to the Conference Secretariat by
1 December, 1995. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by 2
February, 1996. The notification letter will be accompanied by, among
other material, a registration form. Authors must complete these forms and
return them with the final paper and a cheque to the Conference Secretariat
by 3 April ,1996. It must be stressed that under no circumstances will a
paper be further processed if it is not accompanied by a completed
registration form and fees.
Keynote Speakers:
-----------------
As in the first conference, the keynote speakers will be internationally
renowned personalities. They will introduce delegates to some of the most
modern and significant advances made in the field of multi media education.
Social Program:
---------------
An action packed program for spouses and accompanying persons has been
planned for this conference. This includes visits to tourist and
historical destinations, shopping arcades, theatres, the zoo and wildlife
sanctuaries.
Travel Arrangements:
--------------------
Discount air fares have been negotiated with major domestic and
international carriers. Delegates will be able to save substantial amounts
if they book with the preferred carriers.
