This weekend is the ARRL EME Contest. EME or Earth-Moon-Earth is
communication that uses the moon as a passive reflector to send
signals back to earth. This allows for contacts with any station that
can see the moon at that time. I personally have not made any EME
contacts before, but I think this contest will be the best chance to
make an EME contact. All the "Big Gun" EME stations will be on so
they can pull smaller stations, like ours, out of the noise.
The contest officially begins at 7pm Friday night and goes until 7pm
Sunday. I'm sure you've guessed that we will not be operating that
whole time, as the moon will not be up.
Friday moon rise is 10:40pm and moon set will be at 2:13pm Saturday.
The moon will again rise at 11:50pm Saturday night and set at 2:58pm
Sunday.
Let me know if you're interested in operating any of Friday or
Saturday night.
