It is better to list separate items as separate issues, so that they can be
tracked
separately.
Headers: See Issue 22, Issue 616, and Issue 888
Connections: Connections are kept open for re-use until they are no longer
valid.
Delete: Set the Trash folder to -None-
More on headers: K-9 Mail does download headers first, but if the message
is smaller
than a certain size, will download the rest of the message so that you
don't have to
wait for it when clicking. The idea is that most of the time the messages
are
downloaded by polling, when you're not actively waiting. So, by the time
you click
on the message, everything is already stored locally.
I'm going to change this Issue to be specific for the header-only poll
option.

Oh, if K-9 Mail isn't keeping track of which messages have been read, then
something
is wrong with your configuration. It sounds like K-9 Mail is not
successfully
marking the message as read in your server-side account. Please check your
IMAP
prefix. Look for message in K9mail-errors.
Yours is a IMAP account, right?

Yes, I'm using IMAP with a FastMail.FM account. I left the prefix blank as
it said it
would auto-detect it.

I just spent a weekend away in the wilds where the best connection I could

Trying to scan several hundred new email headers - looking for important
ones to read
- proved quite impossible, owing to the msg body content downloads taking

per page of 25 msgs, and being apparently non-interruptible. Backing out to
the
accounts screen, and re-entering, as an attempt to interrupt the content
download,
didn't seem to help much.
This with polling disabled.

reason being is 90% of emails are junk and we are wasting bandwidth and size
downloading these emails when they will most likely be deleted.. it is also

as for the keeping track of new message issues. yes i am on imap and it is
sort of
keeping track of new messages ie it only shows the correct number of new ie
4 etc.
But, everytime i connect it downloads the last 25 messages/headers
depending on
size. even when all 25 have already been read.. so the check mail needs to
look at
the last/highest message header number/id first before requerying all 25.

It only
verifies the flag state, which has to be done in order to keep the local
representation of the folder synchronized with the server (master) copy of
the
folder. Checking the highest message UID, etc. is not an appropriate way
to control
which messages should be checked during sync.
If the download of a message failed during a sync (the message will remain
displayed
on a grey background), K-9 Mail will attempt to redownload it.

Download headers only will save us a lot of money while roaming with 3G or
GPRS turned on!
Very important function for the road warrior. Recently I stepped off the
plan in Korea I turned on my phone, by the time I stepped off the aero
bridge k-9 mail had already downloaded 400kbytes of email. That's $8. I
tried it again the next day, it chewed by another 500kbytes of data within
minutes of me enabling 3G data while roaming....

Pls integrate an option for "headers only". Even limitation to 1kb is far

For me downloading headers only is simply to save clogging the phone up
with the some of the large e-mails one of my customers keeps e-mailing me
for viewing on my pc. I rarely need to open them on the phone, so
downloading them is better left as an option rather than an automatic
action. Thanks.

Is there a specific reason why this issue only has "medium" priority? I
think it should be quite easy to implement a simple "header only" option
and a condition in the mail fetching loop. :)

After some months, is this issue resolved? I'm having some really hard time
when I get an email with text and a few big images as attachments - K9
downloads only first x KB of the first image and then givees me no info
about the actual sizes of all the attachments.

Hi there. Coming from a Profimail environment I have to agree with the need
for a Headers only option. Surely it hasnt taken this long to be

in the source to look for where k9 fetches the headers and checks the size
of the body?

In year 3 after initial post we stay at the beginning. Unbelievable that
such a basic future is not on board of a mobile email app for such a big
community. This functionality was with Nokia Messaging Email Client under
Symbian no problem...for Holidays i take my old Symbian phone.

This would be the easiest thing in the world to do and should take maybe 5
mins tops. headers only is the quintessentially vital feature of IMAP
versus other mail protocols...
There is already the functionally to download headers, and then if the
message is less than some selectable size, it downloads that too. you can
pick various message sizes. one of those sizes is "No Limit" meaning it
will download no matter how big.
The existence of this list of options implies that there is some checking
in the code, ie, if (msgsize < userselection) { downloadmessage(); }
well, ALL it would take is to add an option to this list called "Headers
Only" instead of "No Limit" and the value of that option is zero! DONE.
2015 and this doesn't exist yet in 5.006 that i can find... is it in the
new ver?
