I get this too - looks like the first line or two are being hidden under
the heading (with the subject line, sender, etc.)

This could be a view layout issue. If you zoom in on the message body, the
header pane also enlarges and slides up out of view. This reveals the top
lines of the message.

(I get the same problem: Android 4.4, Nexus 5, K-9 Mail 4.409)

Same problem here. Nexus 5, Android 4.4, K9 Mail 4.409 + 4.700.
The text of test emails send with mailx will "start" in line 7.
Most text emails I get have less lines, so I thought the mails where empty/
not displayed at all.

yes, I get exactly the same on my new Nexus 5 + KitKat

A real shame because after a longtime K9 user, this makes it unusable...

Surely not a "medium" issue... I have had to load an alternative client...
hope you can fix it fast !

FWIW, here is a screenshot showing how the first four lines are missing on
a Nexus5/Kitkat.

Extreme zooming can get me everything except the upper half of line 1, but
that's no real workaround...

Looks like the issue lies somewhere in TitleBarWebView, though I'm still
not sure of the specific details of why it's doing what it's doing.
(Specifically, if I comment out the call to setEmbeddedTitleBarCompat
within SingleMessageView, the whole message becomes visible.)

Very quick reaction! Yet, it doesn't work for all mails. For some, the

flash (might just be too fast).

I installed the 4.409 from Play Store, created my account with a self
signed cert, updated to 4.700 (manual apk install) and updated to 4.800
from Play Store this morning.
I don't have any problem with my self signed cert for IMAP SSL. Maybe
because the account setup was done in 4.409.

I rotate the phone into landscape orientation the body of the message is

Also sometimes nothing is displayed at all in portrait mode. You can only
see it flashing for a really short time (see #20).
After rotating to landscape mode the complete mail is shown.
After rotating back to portrait the mail is also completely shown here.

Disable auto fit is also workaround for me.

Definitely wouldn't push out a stable release until this gets fixed. (Nexus

Hi Folks!
I have this same very problem with my TF700 transformer for a while. I
would like to upgrade to 4.8 but when I go to the google store, I'm not
given an option to update, so I uninstall, then re-installed k9. The Store
is only installng V4.4, not v4.8. I've cleared the data for Downloads,
Download Manager, Google Play Service and Google Play Store but still only
get V4.4.

Any way to get to 4.8 for me? Thank you in Advance!

4.8xx is only available for kitkat users, because it is not final but has
some fixes specifically for kitkat.
I don't think that your problem is caused by the same issue. In kitkat the
webview has some changes which causes this problem. I don't think that
4.8xx will fix your problem.

You can always download any version of k9-mail here:
https://code.google.com/p/k9mail/downloads/list
You will have to temporarily enable other sources in security settings to
manually install an apk, and you will have to install every update manually
as well, until 4.8xx is released in the play store for everyone.

see the first 4+ lines of an email. I just updated to 4.801 from the Play

Comment #48 on issue 6033 by jsteele...@gmail.com: body text not completely
The likely reason people might still be observing this problem is because
they are using an old version of K-9 Mail.

I've observed where people will be happily using an old version of K-9 Mail
on Jelly Bean, and then one day their device is updated to KitKat and all
of a sudden K-9 Mail isn't working properly. Simply updating K-9 Mail
solved the problem.

After making my comment, I went to F-Droid and saw that there was an update
there. The update was not present on Play Store (what I normally use to
update apps), and I remember checking a few weeks ago that F-Droid had
actually an older version than the one from Play Store. After updating it
fixed the issue. Thanks!
