G'day all,

I seem to get syncing disabled message, usually overnight.
The only way to get out of this situation is to force stop and restart.

Any suggestions?

Through the day it is fine.

I believe I have folders setup correctly.
I don't believe it is my network, but I will test that tonight by leaving another phone next to it and see it it gets the same issue.

I have k9 running on a sony z1 find and a old xoom tablet fine.

The device that stop is a 2 week old Samsung S7 edge. Maybe it is related to the s7?

Should I try and reinstall, does that make a difference?

Assuming the new device runs 6.0, it's related to Doze.

If you whitelist the app (disable battery optimization) the issue should be fixed.

I am running 6.0.
How do I whitelist a device, I don't seem to be able to find anything.

Thanks for the quick reply!!!

Thinking about it some more, I don't mind if it is doze, but there does not not seem to be a way to make it wake up in the morning other than stopping it and restarting it.

I could move the fast NFC charger to my bedside and then it would not doze since it is charging?

Also, more thoughts...

Is it k9 or the wifi that is dozing?

The device goes into Doze mode and kills all connections.

To whitelist an app, on stock Android you use Settings, Battery and then Battery optimization in the overflow (3 dots menu).

We probably can improve the behaviour slightly however. There's some outstanding testing and development to be done.

In Android 7 Doze will occur much more so this is only going to get worse :(

I don't seem to have 3 dots menu... an s7 thing maybe?

I have Settings > Battery > Save battery power by ... with a 'details' button.
In there I have disabled k9, we shall see what happens tonight.

Sadly that did not work. Maybe I have not successfully whitelisted it yet.

Why does K9 not 'wake' up once we are out of doze mode (is that the correct terminology) or could K9 have an exit button so I don't have to force stop it.

I'm not sure. Either we aren't told Doze has ended or we aren't responding to it. I suspect if we knew why it occurred we'd have fixed it.

I don't think we are likely to add an exit button - it's not a typical Android design pattern.

I found another setting, will check to night and see what happens.

I have managed to keep k9 from dozing. So I am happier now.
On my Samsung S7 edge ...
settings
battery
battery usage button top right
more button top right
Optimize battery usage menu option
Select 'all apps' from drop down
Then turn it off for K9

Thinking about htis a bit more, I don't mind that it dozes, but it is really annoying that the only way to get it out of doze mode is to force stop and rerun. Hence my suggestion of an exit option, or how about a 'check network' ideally this would be automatic once we have left 'quiet time'

S5 on Sprint with K-9, ever since Marshmallow, K-9 has been nigh-on unusable. IMAP is constantly rolling to syncing disabled - I have disabled the power saving for apps with app power saving set to off (I have also disabled it for K-9 prior) but the damn thing still dozes and kills syncing to IMAP. Making this product unusable. Surely there is a way to change the syncing behavior to force a wake up or something, because at this point, I have to start looking at alternatives to K-9 which sucks because I've used it for blooming EVER. Unless there is something I've not done, would love advise on how to fix this.

I think there is a bug (or maybe a feature) in the code.
Once k9 losses sync it never turns it back on. So I was killing the app and restarting every day, not very practical.

The app can be coded so that android does not doze it.

I did manage to stop mine from dozing, but it took a few days to find the right combination of setup and rabbit sacrificing to enchant the thing to do what I wanted.
