Clicking on app automatically opens it

It doesn't show a sign in screen before opening the app. It automatically opens, revealing all my emails. I can't find a way to sign out either.

Opening up and showing your e-mails is the purpose of this app. If you don't like it to do so: what did you expect it to do when you installed it?

So basically you're sarcastically stating that there is no screen to type in your password to login when you click on the app (as one can do on desktop for security measures). Some people do like to log in and out of their email provider. So it seems K9 opens like gmail does on android, bypassing sign in measures. And yes, can you believe that I'm not so dumb-witted that I actually do expect an email app to show my emails?

It does not. It's up to you to protect the device. You can use third party apps, like Avast, to lock down apps if you want to do so.
