I write and send most of my emails when on the subway to or from work.
Formerly I had no problems - the emails would go into the outbox and
be sent when a connection was restored. But lately I get an error
reading "failed to send some messages" which pops up and then
disappears. The emails I've sent sit in the outbox, unless I turn my
phone off and on again. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

It's really annoying - enough of a problem to stop using K9
altogether, which would be a pity, since it's great in so many other
ways. I should add that I'm using gmail.

Can anyone help?

I've had this issue a few times. Seems like one of the mails in the outbox gets corrupted. Deleting that one email then allows the others to be sent.

Actually, this happens for me even when I am not in an area with bad reception.

It doesn't seem to have to do with the emails in the Outbox. If I
delete them the problem re-occurs when I'm back in the subway sending
emails and come back into range: just get an error message and the
emails sit in the outbox and won't send unless I turn the phone off
and on again. This problem began after an update, but there is no
rhyme or reason to it - lately it's been really bad - every time I
have no service the messages won't send when service resumes. Help!

Often, the E-mails don't go out even when the phone is turned back on.

I have the same issue starting two days ago. Mine happens any time I try to send a message from K-9. Have you found an answer? I may just switch to another email app.

K9 email v5 updated 10/1/14
Running android 4.4.2
Unable to send email; failed attempt to send message (something to this affect).
Steps taken:
-Cleared outbox from 3 messages that didn't send. Resend/failed in a strong 4G area
-above steps tried after clearing cache first; sane results
-restart phone, pulled SIM card and reseat after a minute (Verizon Note 3/Android 4.4.2). Try above re-sending of email. Failed...
-3 outgoing emails back in outbox. At home and back on Wi-Fi. Sent...
-turn Wi-Fi back off, at home, enable mobile data and sent 3 separate emails and all went through...
1) test email to self
2) share email via FireFox
3) share email via Chrome
Created debugging file but need to send via PC and attach

If I am reading things correctly you encountered:

- 4g cell data-out&about/sending failed
- wifi-home/sending worked
- cell data-home/sending worked

This doesn't sound like a direct K-9 issue, rather more likely
network issues or hitting access controls on your outgoing mail
server.

First, being in a "strong 4g area" doesn't necessarily mean that you
have a data connection. I don't use verizon, but know that with both
att and tmobile I can have a seemingly strong signal, but no data. I
use an app like "ping" (and other tools) to test for data when I'm
in doubt.

That sending first didn't work over cell data and then did, points
most likely to some type of network issue, not something specific to
K-9.

If you had had consistent results on a transport-specific (wifi/cell
data) basis, then I would suspect that your home wifi connection is
accepted by your outgoing mail server in a way that differs from
your cell data access, and the latter ran into trouble.

There are other potential scenarios but that would require more
knowledge of your network environment, outgoing server and K-9
outgoing mail configuration.

fwiw, I find Kaibits Network Signal very useful, it shows data signal strength over a short time span, and, data link status, both Wi-Fi and cell data.

(mainly use to pre assess if cell data signal OK for VOIP calls)

Please remember that the people who offer help on this forum, much like the people who develop k-9, volunteer their time and knowledge and are under no obligation to do so.

"Please" and "thank you" go a long way.

(And accusations of bullying by people who don't give the answer you want will result in being filtered to the bit bucket.)

Another possible cause is a problem at the host.

I manage several email accounts hosted via Bluehost and managed through CPanel.  One account on the same domain was allowed to fill up to its quota.  When that happened, my account in the same domain started throwing these errors in K-9 (550 Send Verify error message would appear briefly).

Resolving the over-limit account and clearing my Outbox of all pending messages seems to have to worked.

Keep in mind the offending account was not the one associated to K-9, but another account on the same domain. If I wasn't the admin, I would not have known this.
