I'm trying K9 out on my Galaxy S5, after having a hard time finding a workable ad relatively bug free email app. K9 seems promising, but a few common features seem to be missing.
- Moving an email from one folder to another. I searched this and found instructions, but they must have been written for a previous version of K9. I see no Move or Copy under additional options.
- No badge for unread emails.

Do these features exist, but I haven't been able to find them in settings?

for me: android 4.4.2
k9 4.804

imap ?

move email to an other folder: when reading the message, bottom bar, 3rd icon from left, looks like a folder; then, you got the full list of folders (i am using imap. There are no folders in pop), regardless of classes 1 or 2. From listing, you need to tick at least one message, then, in bottom bar the third icon (3 stacked boks) means rchive, and will move message to archive folder (ou configure it in settings. 4th icon is again folders.

Badge, no clue what it is.

Tried unified folders ?

Thanks....
I have a Pop account so maybe folders aren't supported.

I don't see a row of icons at the bottom when reading a message.

A badge is a small red circle over an icon indicating how many unread notifications you have in that app, like in this case unread emails.  This is a very common feature in email and message apps.

I only have one email account.

Don't know if my replies helped but thanks for taking the time to respond.

There is no such concept as 'folders' in pop protocol, sorry

Thanks….
But… I've tried several Android POP email apps that allow you to move emails between the built in folders. K9 doesn't seem to allow even that?

Sorry, no idea, do not use pop.

But, if I was to hesitate a guess, I'd guess no,
From a simple logic perspective, what's the point of wasting resources developing an app with 'folders' for protocol that has no such concept ?
(when a protocol with folders exists?, and, is supported?)

Again, out of my area, just speculating

Well, the question was not "does K9 allow folder creation" but rather "can I move emails from one folder to the other." After researching K9 a bit, I did see that folder creation is not supported for POP accounts. But myMail and Samsung's factory installed email app, to cite two examples, are both apps that support POP accounts AND also allow the user to transfer emails between accounts.

I bring this up because I've accidentally deleted mails many times. It would be nice to be able to send them back to the inbox. You could work around this by forwarding the deleted mail back to yourself, but that seems a little unglamorous.

Like I said, I don't know the answer to your question, but, from what you just said, if you find other mail products superior for your needs, you clearly should use them.

I find K9( and Kaiten) superior mail clients for my needs, ymmv

Like I said, there is no such concept as folders in pop

I'm not clear on this myself, but I think there's a legitmate bug here.
Of course POP3 does not have a concept of folders. But mail clients
that use POP3 can have local folders.

Sticking to IMAP, I found that I had accidentally deleted a message,
which was then in Trash. I tried to refile to inbox, and got a message
that more or less said "Can't move message because it is not synchronized
with the server." This seems like a bug, because whether or not the
message has gotten back to the server or not *yet* is not my problem as
a user. But I did sync on that folder, and then I could move it.

My point is really that IMAP clients should present a logical view of
the folders, separate from what's made it to the server, and sync in the
background when there is a network connection.

Thanks...  Still looking, they all seem to have their own set of advantages and warts.

K-9 doesn't come in separate versions for POP and IMAP. The folder support is intended for use with IMAP.
