Just upgraded to Pixel 2 XL. I can't seem to find the setting that stops K-9 mail from deleting messages that are read from the Unified Inbox.
My last version kept the read messages in the Unified Inbox and just highlighted them in grey as read.

I have the same problem.. The problem recently started(2-3 weeks ago?)  I've been using this same Moto Droid Turbo for 6-9+ months, and have been using K-9 Mail for at least 7 years and have never had this problem before. I presume it was caused by some "upgrade" in the app.  If so, it is actually a downgrade.

IS ANYONE INVOLVED IN K-9 DEVELOPMENT READING THIS?  I SEE THAT NO ONE HAS RESPONDED TO PAUL'S ORIGINAL POST.  If not, I'm open to recommendations of alternate mailer, cause this is unacceptable!

K-9 Mail is an open-source app written and maintained by unpaid
volunteers. The best way to get a problem fixed is to submit patches.
Barring that, providing precise details (including Android version, K-9
app version, steps to reproduce, etc.) is critical. Showing that you've
made some attempt to track down the actual problem is helpful, so try
testing different versions and report exactly which version started
exhibiting the problem. And finally, be polite. ALL CAPS SHOUTING,
sarcasm quotes berating the software, and complaining about lack of
responses are all great ways to get yourself ignored.

I do realize that you are frustrated by this issue. Remember that you
always have the ability to roll back to previous versions of K-9, which
can be used as a temporary workaround.

Sean -

Thanks for the reply.
I noticed this change after upgrading from a Nexus 6 (which was kept up to date) to a Pixel 2 XL (Pixel).
I do not know what version I was running as I had to send that device back to Verizon for a return credit.
However, I received the Pixel on 10/31/2017.
I have tried a whole bunch of settings options but they do not help.
I have a number of email accounts, so the unified mailbox is great for me.

Problem Description: once I view a message in the unified mailbox, it is removed from the unified mailbox.
(Perhaps some users would like this. So maybe it need to be an optional setting.)
It used to be highlighted in grey which is what I would like - all emails read (highlighted) and unread (not highlighted) in one place.
The deleted message is still available in the inbox of the relevant email account inbox, just not the unified or all messages box.

The K-9 version on the Pixel is currently 5.208, and the Android version is 8.0.0.
Love the app. Have been using it for years.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated by me and perhaps other users.

I've heard of a few things that can make read messages disappear from
view.

1) If you accidentally click on the sort button and sort by read/unread,
then the read messages move to a different part of the lsit and seem to
disappear.

2) If you enter a folder by clicking on the circle + number that
indicate the number of unread messages, then you only see unread
messages, and read messages disappear.

3) There's an option in Account Settings -> Notifications that when
ticked says that opening from a notification means that unread messages
are shown. This might be relevant.

I don't use the Unified Inbox myself, so I can't comment on how that
should behave.

Thanks for the reply.
Responses:
1. I don't do that.
2. I enter from the unified inbox, always. Not sure I have ever seen the "circle + number" option.
3. I am not opening from a notification, so (I think) not applicable.

I am using start in Unified Inbox option too, but I don't have this problem. I can see all the messages read (greyed) and unread also. Maybe it is a specific problem with this phone and/or Android version. I can confirm just that with Samsung Note 3, six IMAP accounts, K-9 Mail version 5.208  and Android 7.1.2 there is no such problem. I know that this information is not solving your problem but at least it helps to be focused on a specific phone model or Android version.
