How come I cannot empty all of the trash? I have tried two methods
for this. First I go to the Trash folder, Select All and Delete.
When I come back to the Trash folder, there are items still in the
folder. I have to repeat the process over and over again to totally
empty the folder. The other method is, in the folder view, choosing
Empty Trash. That seems to do nothing. What am I doing wrong? How
do I delete Trashed messages all at once, even if I have hundreds in
the folder?

If you select "all" messages in the trash folder only those messages are
deleted. If you have messages on the server that haven't been downloaded
those won't be deleted, but downloaded the next time your synchronize
that folder.
"Empty trash" should delete all messages locally and from the server. If
that doesn't work it's a bug. Please record a debug log while trying to
use the empty the trash: https://github.com/k9mail/k-9/wiki/LoggingErrors

I finally got around to doing this.

I had a number of emails (locally, deleted from the Inbox) in the
Trash folder. Went to the folder, selected all, delete. Went to
folder list. Back into the Trash folder and there were deleted emails
still in the folder. Repeated. Got a Force Close.

How do I get you the log file?

I am getting the same result. I had to get my host to add the K9 Trash folder to my Webmail subscription list so I could delete what grew into 600MB of trash. This is a bug...

I miss an option to empty the trash automatically when leaving K9. Why should I do that manually?
Using several mail accounts its really annoying...
Please consider that for the next version...
