Concurrent connections for efficiency

Wouldn't it be nice if K-9 connected with different mail servers concurrently rather than sequentially? That way polling, receiving and sending complete so much faster. In my experience so much time is wasted waiting for a server to respond, delaying everything else in the queue. Profimail for Android does concurrent connections and the difference in speed is phenomenal.

Three years later, I am still wondering why K-9 doesn't connect to more than one server concurrently to speed up the overall process. Is there a technical reason preventing this? Other apps seem to manage.
