Hi,

I've downloaded the latest K-9 email app and in trying to connect up to Yahoo, I'm getting nowhere fast.

My Yahoo account is setup for Pop access. I'm using pop.mail.yahoo.com for the server, SSL/TLS (always), port 995, authentication: PLAIN. I've tried both my Yahoo Id as the username as well as my full email address (user...@yahoo.com). Nothing.

I've double checked my password entry and that is correct.

On a slightly different note, can you delete an account? For that matter, can you switch from POP to IMAP? The only way I've been able to do this is by uninstalling and re-installing.

Thanks.

Les

You can not change from POP to IMAP, you must set a new account select either POP or IMAP. Yes, you can delete an account, and you can have multiple accounts.

Thank you for that information. But I'm still looking for the most basic thing:  how do I setup K-9 mail to connect to Yahoo Mail?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Yahoo

For normal email server you need
Email or id
Server name
Pop or imap
Security and port setting

All I had to do to configure K-9 to handle my Yahoo free email was to supply my email address ending in yahoo.com, my password, and my real name. K-9 set everything else up automatically.

Did you use POP or IMAP? For your username you put in your Yahoo address and not just your Yahoo ID?

The settings you need are here:

https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mail-for-desktop/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html?impressions=true

Or if you REALLY want to use POP3....

https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mail-for-desktop/pop-server-settings-yahoo-mail-sln4724.html?impressions=true

Although I really recommend IMAP

So you'd create a new account in K-9 and just follow the prompts filling
in the information as requested.

I tried those and it still didn't work. Even tried them with the regular email app -  nothing.

So there is either a setting in missing, or something else is wrong.  I keep getting the error that it can't connect to the server to verify the username and password.

The absolute simplest technique, which I used successfully to connect to Yahoo free email, is to go to the account list screen, click the plus sign to add a new entry, enter your Yahoo email address (som...@yahoo.com) and password, and click Next. The setup wizard will handle everything else.

If the problem is persisting using multiple clients, it could be a
provider issue or a device issue. Also worth contacting Yahoo support as
this is specific to them.

When you're having this problem are you on WiFi or a Mobile network?

As it turns out, it was a Yahoo problem. After a week of no success, I just decided to give it one more shot and it worked. But then it was getting a SocketTimeoutException for most of yesterday. That finally resolved itself and now it's working.

Don't know why the Yahoo email app managed to work. Main reason for the change is that the Yahoo app kept crashing on deletions.

Probably using proprietary ports/settings.

You might have to have a Yahoo Mail Plus account, which isn't free.
