Dear all,

I only installed K9Mail yesterday and was testing it with different email accounts of mine. I'm very impressed by this applications, extremely user-friendly.

One problem I came across after I set up my Gmail account on K9Mail:

1. After I installed the account, a lot of emails that were previously archived (= label "inbox" removed) reappeared in my inbox.
2. I believe these are all emails that are parts of threads whose most recent email is still in the inbox.
(So I suspect, in other words, that if an email in the inbox is part of a thread, all previous messages will be automatically relabeled "inbox". Part, perhaps, of some sort of conflict from trying to handle "thread structures" along with "labels"/folders in K9.)

My questions:
- Is this common / usual behavior, or am I the only one with this problem? (I surprisingly only found one related post on the internet, and it hadn't received any answers.)
- Can I change this behavior? (I checked the settings, but couldn't find anything that seems to relate to this.)
- If other people are using gmail with K9, how are you dealing with this problem? Doesn't it bother you that the inbox might possibly end up being cluttered with tens of emails?

Apart from this kudos to the developers for this outstanding piece of software!

Cheers,

Robert

Has nobody experienced the problem above?

Or am I missing something?

k9mail does absolutely nothing with threads but it seems gmail
does the behavior that you see.
The gmail behavior is nice for desktop use but obviously causes
strangeness with IMAP.
Maybe it will go away when k9 implements threads one day but
until then try to change things on google side.

Richard,

thanks for the tip. However, my gmail account is not setup to display threads, so it would have to be a problem with how K-9 accesses google (or how google provides data access to 3-party applications).

Are you using gmail via K-9, and is your display "normal" (that is without the archived messages in the inbox?)

Cheers,

Robert

OK, extensive googling finally yielded the answer to this problem: Although you can switch off threads in the online version of gmail, for whatever reason this feature is not available for Android access to the mail server, resulting in all those archived emails being put back into the inbox. Thread here, hopefully this will change in the near future.

Best,

Robert
