I have been using K9 for several years, both on my phone (NUU) and tablet (Chrome Pixel C)

Unfortunatly the Pixel C is palying up and I'v enow got a new Samsung Tab S3

I am now going round in circles as I seem to be unable to figure out why syncing is disabled - its never been disabled on my other two devices.

Anybody got any ideas pertaining to the Tab S3 that might solve this?

Thanks for any help.

David

I have no clue, but I'm thinking of getting an S4. So if there's an answer, I'm interested, too.

On my Galaxy Note 9 and previously on my S8, syncing seemed to work irregularly.  I just now manually refreshed my Inbox and emails which arrived at the server about an hour earlier were downloaded.  Sometimes at the top of the folder list I'll see "Syncing disabled."  But other times, without having changed settings it will download mail very promptly.

I have set "Sync messages from 'any time'", Folder Poll frequency Every 5 minutes, Background Sync "always".

I just now noticed that I had "Poll folders" set to "Only 1st class folders" and have set it to "All".

The behavior is as if the app is looking (as some other sync apps like Dropsync do) for some external condition like battery or network to be met, but today the batt is at 90%, and even when away from WiFi polling will sometimes work (maybe 50% of the time, maybe more).

(Overall, very much like the app, esp for its minimalist design sensibilities, a nice respite from the clown-car behavior of most of the rest of the stuff on my phone.)

Have you changed the Android system settings so K9 is NOT battery optimized?

Thx, I was just looking at https://groups.google.com/d/topic/k-9-mail/F8V0kmcWJ-w/discussion (should have searched a bit harder before posting) which suggests the power setting change and I'll save that in case some other things don't do it.

When I tried:  Global Settings > Network > Background sync:  changed it
>   from "Always" to "When 'Auto-sync' is checked, K-9 immediately did a sync, plus it auto-synced another message a few seconds ago.  But since my problem is intermittent I can't be sure there is a causal relationship.

I also see where in Settings->Folder Settings->Folder Poll class, my Inbox was set to "None", and I've set that to "1st Class"--I was just ASSUMEng my Inbox would be First Class but I guess that's just my vanity talking.

This may take a while, thx for the suggestion, I'll let you know.

On my Android 5.1 tablet, I only see "Syncing disabled" when offline (no network or airplane mode). On my Android 7 tablet, I sometimes see that from gmail regardless of network connection.

You need to set this in your Android System settings for Battery not through K9.
