Having an interesting go-around with Microsoft regarding IMAP access to their Office365 hosted Exchange service. Like many, I use several different programs to access my mailbox, primarily Thunderbird (two instances, one on a Windows machine and one on Linux), web browser, and also K-9 on my phone.
It worked fine until late in January of 2013. Microsoft performed some kind of upgrade (which made the web interface look more like Office 2013, I suppose). Shortly after the upgrade, IMAP access began failing authentication on all devices / programs. Using POP still worked, as did SMTP, and the browser interface will still let me log in, so the issue is specific to IMAP access.
After much discussion with Microsoft support, and just plain trial and error, I have figured out that there is something about K-9's use of IMAP that locks the account. If I remove the account from K-9 but leave Thunderbird access in place, after a day or so the login will automagically start working again. It works until I point K-9 at the server; within some number of hours (not immediately, but over the course of a half-day or so) the account will suddenly lock again and I have to disable K-9.
K-9 works with my other IMAP servers just fine. I haven't tinkered with any of the advanced settings (like max open connections etc.) in K-9.
Anyone else experience anything like this? Is there anything to be tweaked (or code to be debugged) in K-9 that would affect this?
