I want to mention that this "less secure" wording is more of a marketing ploy than a reflection of reality. Goodie wants you to use their mail app, which presumably lets Google collect more info about you.
You need that allow less secure apps in the Google mail.

The answer should be generating and using an app-specific password for K-9.
It seems that if google servers are rejecting their app-specific
password, after it worked for a while, the issue is probably on their
side and whoever is using g-suite ought to contact their support.
