I cannot figure out why in either 'unified inbox', 'all messages', or in any of my email accounts---
that when I click on a message, sometimes it is deleted and sometimes not. Its inconsistant and does not make sense.
I learned of this after selecting a message, reading it and finding out it had been deleted????

I would think, A message should only be deleted
when selecting it and hitting the trash icon, or holding down the message and selecting delete, not when viewing.
It is consistant, has anyone else run into this?

Samsung Galaxy
K-9 mail 5.004
android 4.4.2

Could there be an auto-delete function somewhere that I missed or is always activated?
Also meant to say that this was happening inconsistantly, no way to know if the message will still be there.

The delete and move functions apparently just tag a message to be deleted or moved, and a separate execution thread, running in the background, subsequently carries out the action. If K-9 is busy doing something else, such as synchronizing a mailbox, this second step may be several minutes later. Occasionally, K-9 appears to forget to run the second step. This annoying behavior has been present for years.

Thanks John, but theres still no explanation for why when selecting to view a message and then going back to the unified inbox or all messages or the folder, the message is deleted. I never gave it a delete command?????

OK, now I understand what you are talking about. K-9 has two different things referred to as the Inbox, which is confusing. If you click on an account name, you get a view that shows only unread messages in the inbox. Messages you have already read are hidden. If you go to the list of folders, and click on Inbox, you will see the full contents of the Inbox, both read and unread.  So, the messages in question are hidden, not deleted.

If you enter one of those folders by clicking on the round circle or the
number of unread messages, then k9 only displays the unread messages.
That means that once you read a message, it disappears from view. But
it is not deleted. If you enter the folder by clicking on the name of
the folder, the message should still be there.

A similar thing happens (possibly depending on settings) when you open
k9 by clicking on a notification for new messages.

Could that be what you are seeing? k9 shouldn't be deleting anything
unless you tell it to.

I think Unified Inbox only displays unread messages.
