Sending mail sometimes works and sometimes just sits in Outbox.Realised that it works when connected to wi-fi and not if using mobile phone connection.

Using current k-9 on Samsung Galaxy S5 and Android 4

I've looked to see if there are any options to resolve this but so far failed to find anything. Can anyone please help??

Sounds like your Wi-Fi provider doesn't allow cross domain access to mail server.?

Use your connectivity provider's smtp server, or, use secured smtp , if your provider has that

Actually sending by wi-fi seems to work. It's the transmission via my mobile phone provider that isn't working. But your comment encourages me to raise it with the mobile phone company. I thought they would just duck the problem and blame K9... I'll let you know what happens. I saw later on other threads that my problem is not unique.

Yes, that is what I was attempting to say, that's what I'm assuming:

You are set for smtp of your Wi-Fi provider, yes?
And, have different cell data provider?

So, on cell data, you are attempting to use your Wi-Fi provider's smtp, yes?

It's NOT supposed to work, and, there is nothing wrong.

You need to use your connectivity provider's mail server, OR, (better idea)
use secure smtp (port 587 SSL TLS).

with secure smtp you can send email 'cross domain' regardless of what connectivity provider you use.

(Well, almost, some 'free' Wi-Fi places block these ports....)

I just send emails via k-9. Mobile phone sends it via wi-fi if in range and via mobile phone network if not. I have found from experience that if my phone has wifi in range k9 sends it. If no wifi emails get stuck in outbox. I think I have sent an email out of wifi range and it hasn't been sent later when I get back home and wifi again in range. Note that I do not have these problems with Gmail.

EXACTLY WHAT I've said, Gmail uses SECURE SMTP.

Eezy peezy

The default Gmail smtp is as so:

-------
Outgoing server settings
SMTP server

ismtpgmaiicom
Security

SSL/TLS (always)
Port

465

Require sign-in.
Authentication

AUTOMATIC
Username

your...@gmail.com

It's generally not whether or not the provider uses secure SMTP or not. Many providers don't allow sending to their SMTP server when not on their network without authentication. It's the authentication bit that's most relevant, secure or not.

But also, some providers block outbound standard ports. This is all to combat viruses and spam.
