It give me great pleasure to announce that cketti has agreed to take over as the K-9 project leader.

When I released the first version of K-9 Mail to what was then the Android Market in October of 2008, I had no idea that over 5 years later, we'd have over 1.5 million active users and nearly 6 million installs over the years. Heck, I had no idea that my "temporary fork" of the android mail client would grow into a rich, flexible open source mail client with dozens of contributors over its life.

Today's announcement makes official something that's been largely true for quite a while now. cketti is a great project leader and has been the driving force between K-9 over the past few years. I'm thrilled to hand over the project leadership to him and look forward to seeing the project grow and flourish during his tenure.

Thanks everybody for five great years. I've had a wonderful time working on K-9 and am really excited for its future!

Best,
Jesse

Thanks to you, cketti and all the other devs who have made K-9 the best damn
e-mail client available for any mobile device. Lack of similar function on iOS
will prevent me from ever getting an iPad or iPhone. It's a great product I've
been using since I stumbled across it in 2009 after getting my first Android
device, my first smart phone. Hard to believe it's only been 5 years, it seems
like it's been part of my life forever.

It was the end of 2009 when I started looking for an alternative email
app, because the one that came with my phone wasn't very good. Back
then, K-9 Mail was already quite popular and it had an impressive set of
features, so it was an easy choice.
But after a few days I noticed weird behavior with one of my accounts. I
started investigating, first looking at the logs, then at the code.
Eventually, I found and fixed the bug in K-9 Mail. I created a patch and
attached it to the issue in the bug tracker. It was Jesse who merged
that patch into the official app. I really liked the whole experience,
so I started trying to fix bugs other people had reported. This lead to
more patches that got accepted and soon Jesse offered to give me write
access to the source code repository. Of course I accepted. And I'm a
more or less active contributor ever since.
It was also Jesse who created Kaiten Mail, the commercial "sister" of
K-9 Mail. He later hired me to work on it, which also allowed me to
spend a significant amount of time K-9 Mail.

So thank you Jesse! I very grateful for all that you have done for the
project and me personally. And good luck with your new venture[1].
However, I hope you'll be hit by the occasional bug in K-9 Mail, so you
might start up your development environment and contribute a fix to your
project ;)
