Hi,

I recently updated my One M8 GPE to Lollipop, and started having battery drain problems when I am out of wifi coverage.  After wiping the device, clearing cache, re-flashing, nothing helped. Finally, I got frustrated and rooted my phone since this is now required for Lollipop in order to obtain wakelock data.  I then waited for the battery drain to resurface, and tracked it down, sadly, to K-9 Mail.

In the battery monitoring app, The #1 offender was "CoreReceiver getWakeLock"  Killing the K9 window in the task manager was enough to stop the battery drain.

I need to stress that it's not K-9 Mail which is using a ton of CPU.  It's doing something (or not doing something) which prevents the device from sleeping.

-M

After letting it go for a little longer, it might not be K-9 related.  It's still not sleeping.

Mine Nexus 7 2012 is fine with K-9 running all the time and after updating to 5.0.2 Android. No increase in battery usage.

Nexus with cell data?  It only happened when transitioning between wifi and cellular connections.  It has not happened since k9 was removed.

Yeah, actually, i'm using it on 3G all the time. And in that situation i don't see any problems (once it got 100 emails during the night and only a few percents of the battery dropped). I'm not using wifi at all, because it drains too much battery in itself. One observation though. Yesterday i have enabled wifi to update some big apps and K-9 showed an error with my mail server's SSL certificate. It went away once i have disabled wifi again. So it may have some problems (not only with battery) while switching between cellular and wifi (one more reason for me not to use wifi:))

Hi there,

I'm actually experiencing the same issue with the last build of K-9.
I'm running CyanogenMod 12 (therefore it's using Android 5.0.2 as a base). If I let data enabled, it seems that K-9 will drain my battery even if I let the phone in my pocket or on my desk while not using it for hours. I may try if the wakelock is still here on Wi-Fi.

Does someone have some clue about a way to solve this?

Right, I believe that the bug happens when transitioning between cellular and WiFi or the other way around.  Your use case, in my opinion, would not trigger it.

I have checked my battery stats since the last charge and to my surprise K-9 is topping the screen usage even.. But i haven't noticed any change in my usage (it still goes for 3 days like when i just bought it and was using built-in Email app, same after the update to Android 5.0.2). Well, it was laying on the table a few days in a row, so that's why screen usage is comparably low, but still email app shouldn't be so hungry. Will have to check it regularly after charging to see what drains the battery most. But i'm on vacation now, so it won't be my regular usage anyway.
