Hi,

My name is Kaspars Kalnins and I’m studying Computer Science at the
University of Latvia, in Master studies. I’m interested in
participating in Google Summer of Code 2011.

After visiting K-9 GSoC Project Ideas page, I’m specially interested
in “Setup wizard & auto-configuration” idea. So I wanted to know if
there is a mentor for this idea to find out more details about it. And
could it be appropriate (level of difficulty) for GSoC?

Best regards,
Kaspars Kalnins

Hi!

We have no fixed mentor assignment yet. The "Setup wizard &
auto-configuration" aims to improve our account setup process. The first
step is to implement the autoconfiguration mechanism used in
Thunderbird: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Thunderbird/Autoconfiguration
The next step would be to design and implement a wizard that guides the
user to the rest of the setup process (set up initial identity,
configure special folders, etc.). Part of the project is to figure out
what's the most user-friendly way to set up an account.

Feel free to drop by on IRC (#k-9, Freenode) or just ask here if you
have further questions.

Cheers,
cketti

Hi!

Thanks for reply. I have a few more questions.

So now to add a new gmail account you have to write “Email address”,
“Password” and in the next (last) step “Account name” and “Your name”.
Will a new account adding by implementing auto-configuration be the
same?

Since there are no more steps to do during the setup wizard, have you
decided what additional things would be necessary to add to the setup
wizard or is the goal of the project to think of and implement them?
