i am a masters student and have good enough experience with Java and
Android.
What is the criteria for getting selected.
Should we get accustomed to the K-9 code on github before applying
for the idea or do some bug fixes.

We will be choosing our students based on the quality of the proposals
they send in, as well as our communication with them over IRC / Mailing
list before the application deadline.

There's a specific requirement in our application:
*Pre-proposal Assignment*
Students are expected to have installed Eclipse with the Android
libraries, forked K-9 on Github, and submitted a patch to a fresh branch
- the contents of the patch don't matter, a comment with your name in it
is just fine.
We definitely don't mind if it's a real patch instead of just an example
though! Patches are always welcome, and will look great on your
application.
