Hello! I'm wondering how to best get the ball rolling on a new release. A few bugs have been fixed since last September, and it would be great to get the fixes out in the wild.

I'm happy to do any work to get a release out there, but I'm not sure what the next steps within the project are.

There are a couple of things that need to be done before we can cut a
new release. See https://github.com/k9mail/k-9/milestone/24

What kind of help are you offering? Are you a developer?

I've just installed k-9 on my new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7, Android version 10 and got a warning that k-9 was built for an older version of Android (see attached).

My background is in development and as I'm not working at the moment I'd like to help out.

I've build k-9 in Studio (V ...) on the latest Ubuntu desktop (20.10) and I get it to start in a  Pixel VD with Android 11.

I do have issues when configuring the mail account, but before trying to figure out what's wrong, I'd appreciate some feedback on what VD others are using.

I've had a look at the milestones and assume all bugs need to be fixed before the next release

I assume that this group is the correct forum to discuss issues for the next release.

Thanks,
Leo

Hi Leo,

K-9 Mail built from the current main branch runs on Android 5.0 or newer. It shouldn't matter which emulator image you're using.

If you're still having trouble setting up an account please use the support forum to ask for help: https://forum.k9mail.app/

If you have questions regarding the code base the probably fastest way to get answers is by asking in our IRC channel: #k-9 on the Freenode network.

The 5.800 milestone doesn't contain any issues that are particularly suitable for people new to Android development (which I assume you are). If you want to tackle one of these issues anyway my suggestion would be to start with #4875 (change order of accounts): https://github.com/k9mail/k-9/issues/4875
Let me know if you want to give it a try. I'll then write up what UI/UX I had in mind for this feature.

Best
