I have an Epilog Mini (24 x 12 60 watts) that started doing the wavy shift when engraving. In the past, I have been able to "fix" this by keeping the encoder strip clean. The machine has been used a lot recently with end-of-year projects, so I just figured I was behind on my cleaning routines. I did clean the encoder strip, but it did not do the trick, so I cleaned it again and tried to make sure I was doing a thorough job. No such luck.

I have done a little "googling" to see what I could find, but I have been busy with so many end-of-the-year tasks that I haven't been able to dedicate the time to dig deeper into possible other issues that is causing this. Thought I would reach out to the crowd and see if there were any others who have tackled this particular issue and if there were any things I was overlooking.

Thanks!!

We have the same machine and replacing the encoder strip entirely did the trick for us. It is a relatively cheap part so worth trying.

Thanks for the information. Turns out I am a member of that Facebook Group, I haven't been on Facebook for a while so I completely forgot about that resource.

Will take a look now.

I have two Epilogs but have never had this issue before so take this for what it's worth....  My gut though is that since etching generates so much dust, in addition to cleaning the encoder strip (which is the most likely thing to get dirty since it is flat and facing up so can collect buildup easily), you might want to hit the head of the encoder with compressed air because if there's anything stuck on it, that could throw off the signal...

thanks to all, got it back in order, recleaning the strip, cleaning the encoder reader, swapping the ends of the ribbon, and voila! Ready to roll!

thanks all.
