I'm leaving my position at Riverdale Country School in the Bronx. Best job I've ever had by a long shot, but I have to leave it for health reasons. The Maker program is part of the Art and Design Dept, which is a friendly team team made up eclectic, fun, boundary-pushing teachers, most of whom are also working artists. There's a student-designed, art-based makerspace with a metal shop (with welding), wood shop, 96x48 shop-bot, big laser cutter, etc. There's also a generous budget, plenty of outdoor space on a country-club campus, and most importantly, a culture of "let's try it!" in the department. With students I've been able to build an electric roller coaster (

Sky's the limit. There's also the tradition of our annual kinetic sculpture race, which this year features a 15-foot long electric gorilla on wheels, a swingset vehicle powered by swinging, a pedal-powered roulette table, etc etc.
