Amazing!  I've been wanting to push my curriculum further in this direction.  Thanks for inspiring!

Jonathan --
With your interest in combining Engineering - Human Centered Design with Service Learning, I highly encourage you to look into the "EPICS" program developed by Purdue University.
EPICS = Engineering Projects In Community Service.
They have a 4 day teacher institute this summer where you'll be trained in the EPICS process and be supplied with the curriculum.
Purdue University hired me to develop the systems that would help the EPICS K12 program expand their reach. EPICS at Purdue (for university students) is 20 years old but Purdue has only been sharing the EPICS K12 program for 7 years. I traveled all over the US meeting with K12 teachers as they implemented the EPICS program and I can tell you first hand that K12 students enrolled in EPICS courses at their schools are doing AMAZING design work in their communities to help real people with real problems. Contact me if you like and I'll share more.
