2018 Keynote Speaker: John Umekubo
Keynote Title: “For the Love of Learning”

John Umekubo currently serves as the Director of Social Entrepreneurship at the Westside Neighborhood School. Prior to this, he served as the Director of Technology at the St. Matthews Parish School for 13 years, during which he developed the school’s robust makerspace and maker program. John is also a current board member at the reDiscover Center, an education-focused and arts-integrated community makerspace for youth.

Additionally, over the last 2 decades, John Umekubo has been sought after by schools in the LA region and around the country as a consultant. He has helped organizations work through the challenges of implementing design thinking, personalized learning and maker education, project-based learning, and the integration of mobile devices in the classroom.

SUBMIT YOUR PROPOSAL!

The Call for Proposals for The 2018 Design and Maker Class Colloquium is still open, but please note we have already received more proposals for Workshops that we can offer! We are still interested in more Breakout Sessions, particularly those relating to Arts and Humanities.

The deadline for proposals is March 16.

We are looking for sessions and workshops that involve a variety of topics, skills, and curricula related to making, design, coding, and engineering. Although not required, below are some aspects we would like to encourage prospective presenters to consider:

  • Offering specific pedagogical and/or curricular connections

  • Targeting your workshop for beginner, intermediate, or advanced level participants

Visit the DMCC 2018 Website for more information. (https://www.windwardschool.org/page/dmcc)

For our returning presenters and participants, please note that we are changing the format to a one-day event that includes a mix of short breakout sessions in the morning with hands-on workshops in the afternoon. This new format will allow us to host the event in the late spring!  (More details are available on the Overview page.)
